Traffic backing up into Orinda and Moraga (shown) with folks looking for alternative routes after a messy truck crash and spill on the west end of the Caldecott Tunnel this morning.

Inundated with calls from late, frustrated, pretty dang angry folks trying to keep appointment and their bosses happy, etc.

No estimated time given for a re-opening.

  1. Usually I checked the traffic map before I get on the freeway. I didn’t this morning.. and was stuck in Lafayette for an hour before I made an off-ramp and went back home to work. Several co-workers have done the same..
3 hours later and it still seems closed. I feel bad for those that have to get to the airport or something urgent. Bart would have been a good choice had we known in advance.

  2. Took me 3 hours to get to my office with people waiting on phone for a meeting. People did some crazy things on the side of the freeway.

  3. In retrospect I’m angry at the News broadcasters and traffic reports they all just said it was slow traffic due to an accident. They should have said :Road is closed, find an alternate route or stay where you are!.. and why didn’t the CHP issue a Zig Alert? That would have helped get the message across!
