Ceremony to be held August 29 on Front Street near Eugene O’Neill Commemorative Park

DANVILLE, Calif. (August 26, 2024): The Town of Danville is pleased to announce the unveiling of a historic plaque honoring what is locally known as Halverson Creek, scheduled for August 29 at 5:30 p.m. The plaque commemorates the small but significant creek along the west side of Front Street, marking a piece of Danville’s rich history.

In the early 1890s, the Danville Creamery and Halverson’s Livery Stable were established near this location, facing each other across School Street, which at that time connected across the creek to Front Street. For over 70 years, four generations of the Halverson family resided on this site, contributing to the development and history of Danville until the 1960s.

The plaque will be installed on the west side of the pedestrian bridge between the Front Street municipal parking lot and the Eugene O’Neill Commemorative Park, offering a lasting tribute to the historical significance of this location.

Danville Mayor Karen Stepper, Town Councilmembers, Heritage Resource Commissioners, and members of the Halverson family will participate in the unveiling ceremony. The Town invites the community to join in this special event to honor the history and legacy of the Halverson family and the creek that played a vital role in Danville’s early community life.
