A suspected drunk driver left a working CHP officer severely injured and a trail of automotive debris on eastbound Highway 24 prior to the I680 transition in Lafayette Saturday.
The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. with the unidentified officer, who had responded to a report of a stalled driver, was struck from behind by a suspected impaired driver.
Several other cars were also impacted and had to be towed from the scene.
There was no word on the officer’s condition as this was being written.
Officers arrested the driver who struck the officer on suspicion of driving under the influence.
What were you saying about the weakest link on the road is usually the worst.
Horrible. Now we’ll find out if it was a first DUI.

A drunk/impaired driver….at 7 am. Get some effing help man and save yourself before you hurt anyone else. Best wishes to the involved officer. This should not have happened.
Agreed
Probably never stopped drinking from the night before. Pretty sad.
So does Jack find Molly’s collar in the field??? Is that what he picks up????
One of those careful readers we keep hearing about, eh? Nice. You’re pretty much there but it’ll all come out in the movie!
Our roads are becoming unmanageable.
These days I wonder how many of my fellow drivers are boinked out of their minds while driving.
We prefer not to dwell on it. We just concentrate on getting back to the bunker in one piece…
Saw a guy hitting straight off a gray goose bottle on the drive home last week and my friend bay thought besides getting away from him — was how bad a day he had to be having to drink like that right out in the open.
Whoa. That’s committed. It wasn’t us…
I have seen dudes downing Modelos and some hard stuff while in afternoon commute traffic.
Thank you for your quality reporting and flavorful style with words. Hoping for good news about the injured CHP officer. Any updates yet?
