Suspected DUI Driver Leaves CHP Officer Injured On Highway 24 Saturday

A suspected drunk driver left a working CHP officer severely injured and a trail of automotive debris on eastbound Highway 24 prior to the I680 transition in Lafayette Saturday.

The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. with the unidentified officer, who had responded to a report of a stalled driver, was struck from behind by a suspected impaired driver.

Several other cars were also impacted and had to be towed from the scene.

There was no word on the officer’s condition as this was being written.

Officers arrested the driver who struck the officer on suspicion of driving under the influence.

  1. A drunk/impaired driver….at 7 am. Get some effing help man and save yourself before you hurt anyone else. Best wishes to the involved officer. This should not have happened.

  2. Saw a guy hitting straight off a gray goose bottle on the drive home last week and my friend bay thought besides getting away from him — was how bad a day he had to be having to drink like that right out in the open.
