Not actually a candidate for our occasional automotive offering but eye-catching nonetheless is this beast: Dozer 220.
Hand-picked Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel are trained as heavy equipment operators and certified through the State as Initial Attack Dozer Operators for use when things get hairy – as recently happened with the Point Fire we’ve detailed on our pages. You can see and hear 220 at work in Craig Cannon’s excellent video of the fire and, yes, it does sound like that mocked up Tiger 4 they used in Saving Private Ryan when cranked up and on the move.
Anyway, 220 was looking quite a bit more sparkly than when we left it covered in soot, ash, and pink fire retardant so one of our “shooters” (the photographic kind, not the bad kind – we’re working to change that) captured a handsome portrait for posterity when he spotted it idle, for now, in Walnut Creek.
Yeah, those dozers can do the work of ten hand crews on the right terrain.

I want one.
I could use one in the garden.
