Co-workers of a 37-year-old Pittsburg man murdered in Pleasant Hill Park in February were arrested Friday in connection with the killing.

Investigators arrested Pablo Gutierrez-Morales, 31, of Concord; Vanessa Vera-Aguilar, 24, and Jazmin Ruiz, 25, both of Antioch for a “planned, coordinated” attack on Santiago Jacobo, 37, found stabbed to death following his janitorial shift at the park February 10.

Pleasant Hill police said their investigation determined that the trio, who worked with Jacobo at The Watermark assisted living facility in San Ramon, murdered him because Jacobo had been in a relationship with suspect Vanessa Vera-Aguilar while another suspect, Pablo Gutierrez-Morales, was “pursuing a new relationship with her.”

Jacobo was found unconscious and unresponsive in the park’s main parking lot at approximately 4:50 a.m. the morning of the killing. Officers and medical personnel responded to the scene and determined Jacobo was deceased, later determining that he had been fatally stabbed.
