Hoax call threatening violence at Lamorinda schools prompts school lockdowns, massive police response, campus searches, traffic throughout Orinda and Moraga Monday.

Miramonte High School, Orinda Intermediate School and Del Rey School were all locked down upon receipt of the messaging, which hinted darkly of persons coming to the school to do harm.

Residents on local roads reported a steady stream of emergency vehicles threading their way to local schools with teams of armed law enforcement personnel taking up position and initiating room-by-room searches.

Miramonte students were finally released at approximately 3:20 p.m.

Additional investigation determined that a high school in Palo Alto was also targeted in this manner. Police are looking into the source of the threats.

  1. Thanks for your calm and informative alerts. A lot of people were losing their minds and no one was telling them anything.

  2. I was at school during that time and the scariest part is that multiple people (including us) thought there was an actual shooter on campus. Thank god there wasn’t but wish we knew that while it was happening

    • Hey, Madison… glad it all proved not to be. For info, our first alerts that the incident was a hoax were issued by SMS at 2:50p.m. People were indeed glad to get that news.
