A car was discovered off the road and on its side in the 2700 block of Franklin Canyon Road in Martinez Sunday, a person trapped in the wreckage and declared deceased at the scene.
The scene was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m. with the vehicle, described as a Honda Pilot, found on its passenger side in a creek bed on Franklin Canyon east of McEwen Road.
Investigators determined the vehicle, occupied by one driver, was traveling eastbound on Franklin Canyon Road when it left the roadway and collided with a tree.
CHP and emergency personnel arrived on scene and the adult male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators said the driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
