Fatal Shooting In Pleasant Hill Monday

A Concord man was shot in the head and killed during an altercation in the parking lot outside a Contra Costa Boulevard sports bar early Monday.

Witnesses reported the killing in a parking lot outside Farrington’s Sports Bar at 1938 Contra Costa Boulevard. Police were on scene minutes after the gunfire was reported at 1:10 a.m.

Early reports indicated that an unidentified person was seen with a weapon of undetermined type earlier in the evening. It is not known if that person was the one who opened fire.

Police were reportedly looking for a heavy-set white or Hispanic male in a white sports type jersey and blue and white, acid wash jeans. A second man may also have been implicated.

The crime scene was tense and difficult for police to control as sporadic fights continued to break out.

Pleasant Hill police reported finding the victim, Oscar Laredo Arellano, 37, of Concord, deceased in the parking lot upon their arrival.

The suspects were believed to have fled in two vehicles prior to police arrival.

The investigation determined the shooting occurred after a dispute started between two groups of people, with the victim and another man going outside, some shoving occurring and the suspect drawing a weapon and firing once into the victim’s head.

Pleasant Hill Police Detectives are actively working on this case. Any witnesses to the incident or anyone with information is asked to contact the Pleasant Hill Police Department, 925-288-4600.

  1. Farrrington’s…………..an interesting place, I’ve been in a few times. Could be a very fun spot, but I’ve also seen a Hell’s Angel (flying colors) come out of the bar.

    • Now, Jeff, we don’t have to tell you that the Angels are merely a club of two-wheeled sports enthusiasts who gather occasionally for recreational rides and outings in the countryside.

    • It’s been there for decades. Many decades. The fact that you’ve never heard of it is irrelevant.

        • I agree with Anthony Bourdain, who said: “Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride.” And I’ve been going to Farrington’s for over three decades, most often with a very classy girl. You’re missing something, if you can’t rub elbows with a wide variety of folks.

          • Well I’ve done and do all those things but the fact remains I’VE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PARTICULAR PLACE. Didn’t know it was there, and I live in the general area. So all due respect to Mister Bourdain you can’t be open to something you don’t know exists……

    • We generally refrain from benchmark references like “first of the year” or “safest city, etc.” but this killing was the first in Pleasant Hill since 2021.
