Police dispatched to a report of passengers assaulting an Uber driver on westbound I-580 at the Isabel offramp arrived to find two people down after an apparent collision with a vehicle – one of the pair dead at the scene.
The incident was reported at approximately 9:20 p.m. with Livermore police dispatched to an assault in progress call from an Uber driver, who told officers his passengers exited his Toyota Prius while he continued on. It was not disclosed if the pair found down on the freeway was the pair alleged to have assaulted the driver.
California Highway Patrol officers were advised of two pedestrians down in the exit lanes on Isabel and ordered a traffic break to facilitate their investigation, eventually locating the Uber driver a short distance away.
A second car bearing damage consistent with a front-end impact was also subsequently located, but the CHP would not say what part, if any, it played in the incident.
It was not immediately known how the pair were struck. The case is currently under investigation.
Who wants to bet the surviving passenger and the family of the dead one try to sue Uber for the driver letting them out of his car in an unsafe place [after they attacked him]?
