In a second instance of a civilian vehicle striking emergency vehicles on the scene of a prior crash – a motorist driving east on Highway 4 at Loveridge Road in Pittsburg struck a ConFire engine and ambulance early Sunday morning.

Luckily, no injuries were reported among firefighting crews or medical personnel but, yet again, the engine was taken out of service and the ambulance had to be towed from the scene. The crash was reported at approximately 2:50 a.m.

There was no word on the condition of the driver who crashed into the fire apparatus or what might have caused the collision – the responsible car reportedly drove off and was last seen heading into Pittsburg.

Fire crews take protective measures when assisting citizens in need, up to and including placing vehicles in lanes prior to the crash scene in order to provide a protective buffer. Such measures were in place Feb. 18 in Walnut Creek when a Tesla driven by 31-year-old Pittsburg man slammed into ConFire’s ladder truck – killing the Tesla’s driver and leaving his passenger and several firefighters injured.

  1. So unnerving. You just don’t know who’s on the road at that hour – or what condition they may be in. So glad no one was hurt.

  2. Elon, we have a problem.
Reported today. The previous 4 AM ladder truck crash was a Tesla on “autopilot”.
