Danville ATM Stickup Latest In String Of Robberies At Area Banks

Chase

A Danville resident became the latest in a string of victims to learn the hard lesson that thieves favor bank robberies because: “That’s where the money is…”

As we reported shortly after it happened Monday night, the victim was at the Chase Bank branch in the Danville Livery when she was approached by a “heavy-set” black male who demanded all the money she could withdraw, backing up the demand by mentioning that refusing “wasn’t worth losing your life.”

The suspect menaced the victim by gesturing to an unseen firearm, and his demand was met.

The stickup became the latest in a string of robberies involving people visiting their bank to make business deposits or ATM withdrawals, the thieves pouncing – sometimes displaying a weapon – and demanding their money.

With cash transactions possible up to $1,000 the robberies have become a lucrative “quick hit” for thieves waiting for just such an opportunity.

Adjusting the timing of bank visits and increasing your awareness during your time at cash machines is advised, as is perhaps having someone on hand to watch your back while conducting your transactions.

almost foolproof with very high reward — $1,o00 is a lot of money to these guys — and very low chance of getting caught.
