From the City of Lafayette:
The City of Lafayette is seeking community input on transportation safety in order to develop a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP). The LRSP is one step towards the City’s goal of eliminating deaths and serious injuries on our streets while increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.
We want to hear your ideas for making local streets in Lafayette safer for everyone as well as your stories about where you have felt safe/unsafe when walking, driving, biking or rolling around town.
One way that you can provide your input is through the online mapping activity which will be made available through November 20 at https://bit.ly/LRSPmap. The map is easy to use – simply follow the prompts to pinpoint the locations across Lafayette where you have felt safe or unsafe on our streets, provide ideas for making our streets safer for everyone, and share your stories about traffic safety.
You can also help us by sharing this information with your Lamorinda friends and neighbors.
To view more information about the Local Roadway Safety Plan, as well as other efforts to implement Vision Zero, and how you can keep informed about the LRSP, visit www.lovelafayette.org/roadsafetyplan.
If you need assistance or want to provide more detailed information, please contact Lafayette’s Transportation and Circulation Program Manager, Patrick Golier at PGolier@ci.lafayette.ca.us.
Pedestrian mall
Less people not more.
They’ll have about the same results as SF and San Jose have had after numerous studies, community meetings, street improvements, etc………………………………..NONE.
Take away peoples cell phones and outlaw drugs/alcohol, not going to happen.

Pessimist…
Reality baby, I’ve seen it all.

Start by closing off some untravelled streets and making them accessible only to walkers and bicycles.
Remove the on-street dining area on Lafayette Circle next to Tutu’s, and open the sidewalk back up to pedestrians. That street narrowing is dangerous for both vehicles trying to pass each other, and the people dining in an area protected by nothing other than plastic blocks.
Uh, start with . . . SIDEWALKS!
For decent people, children’s lives matter matter vastly more than preserving the “semi-rural character” delusion. Unfortunately, decency has not informed infrastructure decisions in these parts.
