One person was arrested on suspicion of arson to vegetation charges Tuesday after a smoky roadside fire burned perilously close to a pair of parked 10,000-gallon gasoline tankers before swift action by arriving crews was able to stop the blaze.

The fire was reported in the 3500 block of Pacheco Boulevard at 2:31 p.m., bringing crews on the run. (Look for photos of crew members and an event summation by Fire Marshal Chris Bachman on our Twitter feed.)

Bachman said Crew 12, which happened to be nearby at the time, moved quickly to establish a fire line around the tankers, arriving crews extending the fire line and suppressing the blaze.

Investigators said they arrested Laura Lee Royer, 41, of Martinez and charged her with Penal Code 451(c) Arson to Vegetation. Fire investigators did not say how Royer came to their attention.

    • “Vegetation fire”, not vegetarian, but humantarian, you suggest. As in “hamburger all over the highway…..”. That is a grim imagining. Would you care to restate that?
