Local residents turned out in a show of support for the people of Ukraine Sunday, gathering in Walnut Creek’s Larkey Park to mobilize efforts in support of the beleaguered country.
Several dozen supporters were on hand when photographer Craig Cannon stopped by Sunday.
The gathering, organized and hosted by The Polish School in Walnut Creek, was held partly as a way to accommodate people who had expressed a desire to visibly support the people of Ukraine as well as to brainstorm ways to funnel increasing volumes of relief supplies gathered donated on their behalf.
Love this, wish I had known about it. Thank You for doing this, Ukraine can use every ounce of support they can get, what a heroic Country!!
Hey, Mark… yes. And the weather certainly smiled on them today. You guys stay cool!
Zelenskyy is the George Washington of Ukraine! Kiev was a city long before Moscow. If you learn of more of these events, please let us know.
Well, we weren’t going to turn this into a “sales” thing but since it’s a free offering we would hasten to remind the hosts/organizers of these events that we have a ready-made place to promote them on our site.

Really effective and totally free, and obviously people want to know…
Uplifting and sad at the same time — so many people have family in harm’s way back in Ukraine.
Nice to see the sunflowers on a sunny day. Help the people of Ukraine.
I would like to have known about event too. I say get dangerous Putin out, let Zelenskyy rule both countries. Many Russian soldiers are like 19 years old and are not clear why they’re even in Ukraine to fight or clear on their mission. Russian citizens don’t want Putin either. They are risking 20 year prison sentence for treason to protest in support of Ukraine. I hope the UN figures something out before more innocent people hurt.
G’morning, PV – Yes, see our earlier post relative to getting the news out about events like this one and please pass the word! And we’re watching the region closely, too, and hoping for a peaceful solution soon…
Sunflowers in the garden this summer. Good idea.
Airbnb.ORG, the non-profit arm of airbnb, is offering free transitional housing (for up to 100,000) again, as they did for Afghan refugees. I’m sure there are other charities, but housing is, of course, a primary need.
the national flower btw.
If you wanna hang out you’ve got to take her out, Ukraine
If you wanna get down, down on the ground, Ukraine
She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie, Ukraine
If you got bad news, you wanna kick the blues, Ukraine
When your day is done and you wanna ride on, Ukraine
She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie, Ukraine
If your day is gone and you wanna ride on, Putin
Don’t forget this fact, you can’t get it back, Putin
She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie, Ukraine
Don’t forget this fact, you can’t get it back, Putin
She don’t lie, she don’t lie, she don’t lie, Ukraine.
Ooh, lyrics!
It’s like Shakespeare…translated from the original Russian.
