Two people were arrested on conspiracy and gun charges after a chaotic confrontation at The Cheesecake Factory sent patrons scurrying for cover Sunday.
Walnut Creek officers were called to the restaurant around 5:00 p.m. after receiving a report of a man with a gun, police said in a prepared release. Upon arrival, officers detained several people without incident and determined the altercation was a targeted act.
Taken into custody were 21-year-old Lauren Lopez and 20-year-old Joshua Miles, both from San Francisco, police said. During a fight between several customers, Miles brandished a gun registered to Lopez. After the scene was secured, police canvassed the area and located a bag hidden in a water fountain next to the table where the couple had been eating. Found inside was a loaded Glock handgun with two extra magazines, as well as a wallet belonging to one of those arrested.
Charges against the pair include possession of a firearm and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Despite several recent notable events in Walnut Creek, police said, crime rates have remained very consistent over the past five years. Police Chief Jamie Knox said: “We understand that even a few incidents can be disturbing. That’s why our Police Department has stepped up downtown patrols recently during weekends, increasing visibility and enhancing public safety.”
Crime rates consistent over 5 years? I never recall 5-6-7 criminal acts with guns involved in one year. We had no internet in the 80s and early 90s, but I’d read the CoCo Times, and the most I read were contractors ripping off tools from competitor job sites.
Nationwide, the FBI reported murder is up over 30%.
Seems the new chief has bought into telling political lies, likely at the behest of the city council. 108RS
How disappointing to read the City representative’s telling perspective. The comment “Crime rates have remained very consistent over the past five years,” is an insult to the legacy residents of Walnut Creek who know very well that the recent crime examples were not common events for the past five years. Disregard will only further jeopardize our community.
