Defendant faces 15 years to life in prison

From the Office of the District Attorney, Alameda County:

DUBLIN – Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley announced today that defendant Lauren Davis plead to two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of two people — 16-year old Violet Campbell and 25-year old Alexys Garcia.

On November 22, 2017, the night before Thanksgiving around 11:30 p.m., the defendant was driving her Kia SUV east on Stanley Boulevard in Livermore. She lost control of the SUV, careening off the right side of the road and rolling over several times.

Violet was seated in the seat behind the driver and died instantly. Alexis was in the rear passenger seat and was thrown out of the vehicle, sustaining massive head injuries. She fought for her life for five days, but ultimately died from her injuries.

Two other passengers were injured, but not seriously. The defendant, 26 at the time, was also not seriously injured and able extract herself from the vehicle.

Violet attended Village High School in Pleasanton and Garcia was a Livermore native.

Their night began at a bowling alley, where the defendant smoked marijuana before heading in, and she and others took shots of whiskey. Surveillance footage in the bowling alley showed the defendant drinking beer as well.

When the defendant left the bowling alley, she drove to a nearby bar in downtown Livermore. Before entering the bar, she and others took additional shots of whiskey. She also had a drink inside the bar, and headed to another bar in downtown.

With a car full of people, witnesses say she drove through a red light. While on Stanley Boulevard, her car also struck the curb. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) expert estimated her speed to be between 70 to 80 mph.

“This senseless tragedy took the lives of two young women, and could have been avoided,” said DA O’Malley. “Our office is committed to ensuring that those driving under the influence are held accountable for their actions.”

“In keeping with the mission of the CHP, officers from the Dublin Area and Golden Gate Division conducted a complete and thorough investigation to determine exactly what caused this crash, which led to the arrest and filing of charges in this case,” said Captain Christopher Sherry, Commander of Dublin CHP Area.

“I am proud of their hard work and investigative efforts that led to this outcome. The CHP owes that level of professionalism to the Campbell and Garcia families, and to the public we serve.”

Six months before the deadly crash, the defendant plead guilty to alcohol-related reckless driving, from a 2016 case. As part of her probation, she was to complete a 12-hour DUI education class that included information on the dangers of driving under the influence.

The defendant was also arrested and charged with another DUI-related case from Oct. 9, 2013. She pled to reckless driving (under the influence of marijuana).

The defendant plead no contest on September 20, 2021 to both counts of second-degree murder on the eve of when her jury trial was set to begin. She is expected to be sentenced on October 19 in Department 701 at the East County Hall of Justice. She will face 15 years to life in prison.

  1. Forgive me for thoughtless profiling, but in the picture she kinda does look like a multiple DUI killer. Who raised the little girl into this killer, I wonder?

  2. I know it’s a technicality, but she pleaded No Contest, versus Guilty (in the header).

Too sad that her earlier encounters with Law Enforcement didn’t deter the behavior at all.
Two lives lost due to the irresponsible choice…

  3. Such a young woman with so many bad decisions.

I hope that when se gets out she’ll not make the same mistakes again.

I also hope she finds something productive to do with her live, perhaps something that will help others.

  4. This is a sad situation for all involved. I am so sorry for your pain and loss.

My family in March of 2016. He was driving back to work after going home for lunch in Monterey. Seven college girls on spring break smoking cannabis while snap chatting and chair dancing. They geared into the oncoming lane killing our son Nikko instantly as well as losing one of their friends to significant head trauma and the remaining five receiving life-long injuries.

I feel SO bad for the parents and loved ones of the parents. It is the MOST horrific call you can get. Your world within a second is changed forever along as the siblings have lost their older brother, which will forever change their lives and immense years of pain.

I’m so sorry for your loss, and I pray that God eases your pain. This is the first time I have written on social media about this. It’s Christmas Day, and I don’t believe in coincidences, but God has a plan. I heard the following phrase, and it stuck with me.

“We wear the watch, but God controls the time.”

    God Bless 🙏🏼
