San Ramon police tased and eventually detained a 28-year-old Tracy man they suspected of car burglary after a wild chase west on Crow Canyon Road and onto Highway 680 Tuesday.
A San Ramon officer attempted to stop Juan Vargas of Tracy just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Vargas allegedly putting his stolen Jeep Cherokee into reverse and hitting the officer’s vehicle before fleeing.
Police said the unnamed officer suffered minor injuries but pursued Vargas on Crow Canyon Road, then from Crow Canyon Road near Shoreline Drive toward I-680. The pursuit entered the freeway, where the suspect’s vehicle began having engine issues, Vargas exiting the freeway at Sycamore Valley Road and then fleeing on foot, according to police.
Police said Vargas jumped the Sycamore Valley Road overcrossing fence and began running on the outside of the fence above the freeway, police shutting the freeway down in both directions for his safety.
Officers deployed a taser and Vargas was apprehended on the west side of the freeway underneath the overpass. The Cherokee had false license plates and had been reported stolen out of San Francisco, police determined. Vargas, also suspected of a recent local burglary, was booked for resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving known stolen property, probation violation, felon in possession of ammunition, felony evading a peace officer, hit and run resulting in injury and vehicle theft.
Jeep Cherokee (not Wrangler) stopped on the overpass facing Westbound in the Eastbound lanes.
Thank you…
It’s going to be a helluva week…..
Afraid you may be right…
Thanks for the flashes!
Certainly!
His engine went kablooey.
It did…
What do you want to bet they were dealing with another parolee / early jail release / outstanding warrants criminal preying on the public again! The criminals rule now.
If it weren’t for the police all of us good citizens would be in big trouble & harm.
But despite the police’s good work. I bet this turd will be running around again next week among us.
Well, he’ll have to pick up a fresh car, but stranger things are happening…
Hope the officer is ok.
“Resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, receiving known stolen property, probation violation, felon in possession of ammunition, felony evading a peace officer, hit and run resulting in injury and vehicle theft.” That should be good for a couple of hours behind bars prior to release.
