Discovery of road wreckage and smoke from an apparent crash led to the recovery of a motorcyclist killed when his bike crashed into the center divider on I680 southbound, south of Willow Pass Road in Concord Friday night.
A search for the missing rider began at 10:42 p.m. when officers determined that a solo 2006 Honda CBR reportedly traveling at speeds estimated at 100 mph had crashed into the concrete center divider. Officers determined that the rider, a 48-year-old Concord man, had been ejected into the I-680 northbound lanes of traffic, where he was struck by oncoming traffic.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision but speed was a factor, according to the CHP. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it and have not yet spoken with CHP, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
The freeway closures were lifted at 1:29 a.m.

There’s really nothing to be said about this. It’s so completely senseless. But that won’t stop it from happening again.
