Two Tri-Valley woman – a Dublin mother and daughter – died Saturday when their Toyota SUV inexplicably pushed through a log barrier and off a 70-foot cliff at Bodega Head in Sonoma County.
Coroner’s officials identified the victims as Maria Teixeira, 64, and Elizabeth Correia, 41. Correia, a graduate of Foothill High School in Pleasanton, worked as a first-grade teacher at Lydiksen Elementary School. Her mother, an employee with the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, worked as a lead custodian at Montevideo Elementary School in San Ramon.
California Highway Patrol investigators said the crash occurred at approximately 11 a.m. at the popular Pacific Ocean overlook, witnesses looking on in horror as the women’s SUV, with Teixeira behind the wheel, drove through the parking lot toward the ocean, striking a log barrier and carrying it over the cliff edge as it rolled off the bluff.
Both women were declared deceased at the scene. Their car was eventually winched back up to the parking lot.
Witnesses told investigators the Toyota was neither speeding or driving unsafely before it crashed into the barrier. The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
Losing some good people to cars
Been up there many times. A wonder they didn’t take anyone else with them, but whew, once over the edge, it’s a long way down those rocks to the ocean. There has got to be a lot more to this story than we know right now. Incredibly sad to have lived thru the last 14 months, and now this. Hard on witnesses, too.
Yes. So pretty there. What does it take to push through that log barrier? Those are long trees if I remember correctly.
Terrible news. So sorry. Prayers for their family.
Very sorry to hear this. At least they were together.
