An investigation into a fatal late night accident on northbound SR242 in Concord is underway Monday after a man was ejected from one car and thrown into the path of another.
Officers determined that a 1994 Honda Civic veered off the highway and into a concrete center divider at 11:33pm.
The driver lost control of the vehicle as it tumbled over the center divider and down the center dirt embankment towards the southbound lanes of SR-242, according to the California Highway Patrol. The car came to rest on its roof within the southbound lanes of SR-242.
Officers said the driver, a 22-year-old Concord man, was wearing a seat belt and suffered only minor injuries. His passenger, a male adult from Pittsburg, was not belted in and was ejected from the car and onto SR-242 southbound – where he was struck by a passing car.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Anyone with information about this crash or events leading up to it is asked to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
Seatbelts will save your life. Just wear them.
It doesnt get much worse than that.
There’s a lesson there.
