One Person Wounded After Shooting In Walnut Creek Saturday

SHARE

Police cordoned off the Walnut Creek Motel 6 at 2389 N. Main Street Saturday after an apparent robbery attempt ended with a person shot and wounded there or in the area at about 9:30 Saturday morning.

Main Street was blocked by police from Penniman Way to Parkside for more than five hours while police brought in an armored Bearcat and special weapons team to help search for at least one suspect, believed armed with a pistol.

Police said they received a 911 call regarding a person who had been shot inside a motel room at 9:37 a.m. Officers responded to the scene and located one person suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to John Muir Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police developed information that the suspect, Dashon Banks, 30, of Pittsburg, was still on scene inside a motel room. The Central County SWAT Team, a tactical team comprised of members from Walnut Creek PD, San Ramon PD, Martinez PD, BART PD, and Pleasant Hill PD, responded to the scene to assist.

Walnut Creek Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Banks and search warrants for two motel rooms. At approximately 3:00 p.m., Central County SWAT served the warrants and took Banks into custody without incident. Banks was later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on the following charges: Attempted Murder – 664/187 PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 245 PC, and Robbery – 211 PC.

Based on the information obtained thus far, detectives believe this is an isolated incident and do not believe there is an active threat to the community.

    • The WCPD probably got help from officers from neighboring cities —“Mutual Aid”. Orinda got help from Moraga and Lafayette on Halloween a few years ago when shooting broke out at that massive Airbnb party attended by members of two warring gangs.

    • Way too many. “Isolated incident”? Am I.missing any shootings …

  1. Yes. Freeway is open. N Main closed. Police cars on freeway on other side of wall from Motel 6. Traffic not stopped at San Luis Rey so cars come through then need to uturn in the middle of the overpass. We were able to exit freeway at N Main. Right turn only onto N Main.

  2. FYI- WCPD SWAT is part of a regional team comprised with San Ramon, Pleasant Hill and Martinez PD’s. The benefit is that each of these PD’s do not have the resources to field a good size team on their own hence they work together. By training together they are all on the same page and by using resources from all 4 departments it saves on total cost.

  3. Was this a drug deal gone wrong?
I mean why would a man come from Pittsburg to rob somebody a Motel 6 in Walnut Creek. Motel 6 patrons are generally not known to be flush with cash. I even understand that Motel 6 is also becoming a homeless shelter through government aid.
I’ll never stay in one again due to bad experience with Motel 6 clientele (breaking your car and harass you)

    • Drug deal gone wrong was the first thing I thought of. Otherwise, it would make more sense to rob someone at a nicer motel.

  4. Thank you for giving us the only information we had on this and the protest last night. You guys are amazing……
