A circuitous, on again-off again police pursuit came to a head Thursday when the suspect vehicle turned around on Highway 24 and sped back into Lamorinda – eventually crashing near the end of Dolores Way and Donna Maria in Orinda.
A sheriff’s department helicopter orbited the scene, illuminating the crash site as police and fire department personnel worked to approach the car, on its roof at the bottom of a steep embankment.
Reports that another person fled the car on foot before the crash could not be immediately confirmed.
The incident began shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, ending with the crash at 11:07 p.m. Police have not commented on the incident, believed to have gotten its start in Lafayette. It was not immediately known why the vehicle was being pursued.
Fire department crews were still working to free the trapped driver at 11:30 p.m. The driver was eventually freed and taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Tranquility of the Lamorinda bubble disturbed yet again….
Sounds like quite a show
so they turned around and CAME BACK to Orinda?
It appears so. They were westbound until they turned around at Wilder and came back. Then things got jinky.
Jinky – that’s pretty good.
Why were they running????
Unknown at this time, Pat.
Best guess is incarceration aversion.
Was it ever confirmed if there was a second suspect that fled on foot? Was that person apprehended?
Among the questions we have for police, Elizabeth, but we haven’t heard anything back, yet. We did understand a passenger bailed out of the vehicle before the crash.
Who were they?
There’s a lot going on out there that’s for sure. A lot of it is going unmentioned.
