Lafayette neighbor Ed Koo knows his way around a camera and the Night Sky, apparently, using his trusty D7000 DSLR to get these shots of C/2020 F3, aka Comet NEOWISE, a fast-moving chunk of ice and gas discovered by its namesake telescope in March.
Bright enough to be visible to the naked eye, NEOWISE is the latest of its kind to be seen in the northern hemisphere since Comet Hale–Bopp in 1997. Astronomers predict it might remain visible to the naked eye throughout most of July 2020.
Ed snapped these shots from home Tuesday around 9:00 pm.
Some technical stuff for you shutterbugs:
First picture Ed used a 18-105mm telephoto. (42 mm at f/11 for 30 sec exposure – ISO 5000) Second one he used a 70-300mm telephoto (260 mm at f/11 for 8 sec – ISO 1600)
Thanks, Ed!
Cool!
Very nice photos. Thanks for sharing them here.
