Crews from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire) are mopping up a swift-moving blaze which burned uphill from its start near Alhambra Way toward apartments and county offices on Douglas and Vista Oaks drives Sunday.
The fire was reported shortly before 1 p.m. with ConFire crews deploying quickly along Vista Oaks in an effort to halt its advance. Ground crews reported that the blaze was encircled and mopping up operations underway at about 1:50 p.m.
Although two people – possibly living in a nearby homeless encampment – were seen running back into the fire zone to retrieve personal belongings they were seen leaving the area safely afterward. No injuries were reported.
How hot was it, Johnny?
