A series of brush fires sparked within minutes of each other along the Iron Horse Trail in Concord and Pleasant Hill Monday has been confirmed by fire officials as the work of an arsonist.
A person detained at the scene of the fires was subsequently determined not to have been responsible, according to a spokesman for the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
How the fires were started was not disclosed.
Area residents have been particularly edgy in recent days after a series of vegetation fires have cropped up with unsettling frequency and outwardly suspicious regularity.
One of today’s fires, reported at 2:20 p.m. along the trail, briefly threatened structures in the area before firefighters could bring it under control.
Firefighters said they were confronted by “multiple” fires buring along the trail between Sherman and Brookview drives, officials said.
No injuries and no loss of structures was reported.
