A PG&E transformer got a little sparky at around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, setting fire to the median at Camino Pablo and El Toyonal in Orinda before firefighters were able to put it out.
Local Ron Simi was out and about and captured the moment, noting that the sign indicating “Moderate Fire Danger” at that location escaped damage while a nearby power pole was not quite as lucky.
Area fire crews have been pouncing quickly on local spot and brush fires before they can get up a head of steam as winds, available fuel and high temperatures combine to create ideal conditions for vegetation fires. If you’re able, spring for a lemonade for the crews – it’s hot work.
And try to limit the height of dry grass and vegetation around your home, for reasons that should be obvious by now.
Seems like we should be re thinking this whole overhead power line thing.
