The state Department of Public Health says it is keeping an eye on Contra Costa County after noting an apparent uptick in coronavirus hospitalizations.
As of Friday, the county had 23 people hospitalized with COVID-19 – up from 13 people on June 1. County Health Services has reported 2,148 known cases of the virus and says 56 people have died as a result of the virus.
The rise in coronavirus hospitalizations comes “parallel to a rise in community transmission as our residents move away from shelter in place and resume more normal routines,” according to a release issued by the state DPH.
Earlier this week, Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a press conference that 13 counties had been identified as areas of concern and were receiving “targeted engagement.”
On Friday, the DPH website lists Contra Costa, Fresno, Imperial, Kern, Kings, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Joaquin, Santa Barbara, Stanislaus and Tulare as the counties actively being monitored and assisted.
Everyone, please heed the data trends. Yes, there is a greater amount of testing results available, but that in and of itself does not constitute the increased number of cases.
Look, when your significant other starts talking about when s/he last had a haircut, it is your duty to stand up and tell her how good s/he looks, right now, with longer, perhaps slightly greyer hair. Save a life! Tip the hairdresser/barber well later. Our lives matter.
