Victims of the economic maelstrom created in large part by the COVID-19 pandemic continue to mount – at least one of them a venerable business which has fed locals from its Blackhawk Plaza location for the last 30 years.
Blackhawk Grille, a local mainstay from its location at 3540 Blackhawk Plaza Circle had quietly mentioned closing back in March as the threat of pandemic first raised its head.
Locals confirmed that the restaurant’s parent company – Tavistock Restaurant Collection – has quietly called it quits, a CLOSED notation going up on the restaurant’s Yelp page.
Blackhawk Grille arrived on the local restaurant as a fine-dining concept restaurant almost 30 years ago, adopting a more casual look and feel and changing its menu to meet customer demands in 2012. The restaurant offered a popular weekend brunch and bar and offered al fresco seating overlooking the plaza’s pond.
It is the second Blackhawk Plaza restaurant to close this year with Prickly Pear Cantina owner Rodney Worth saying he was closing because of the state’s “harsh business climate” back in January.
The shelter in place order has caused more damage than the virus it is meant to fight. Every count appears more ready to reopen than Contra Costa. The health department provides no updates on “critical” metrics that is used (secretly, apparently) to determine when business and schools and churches reopen. Ask why our county is not ready; ask why others are more ready. We have nine people in the hospital out of 1.1 million. Where is the leadership to move forward, rather than stay stuck in neutral?
Relatives of victims who have died from COVID-19 disagree that SIP has caused more damage than the virus.
