A 36-year-old Richmond resident died of injuries received after he was struck by a car on San Pablo Dam Road east of Clark Road in unincorporated Contra Costa County Thursday evening.

Investigators said the pedestrian was outside of any designated crossing on San Pablo Dam Road at about 6:10 p.m. when he was struck by a black Chrysler driven by a 65-year-old El Sobrante man. Officers found the victim unresponsive upon their arrival. He was taken to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek – where he was declared deceased.

The driver remained on scene throughout the incident and has been cooperating with investigators, according to a CHP spokesman.

Investigators said the stretch of San Pablo Dam Road at Clark Road has limited lighting with no street lights. They said the driver was unable to see the pedestrian as he crossed in front of the Chrysler and subsequently struck him.

At this time alcohol or drug impairment are not suspected but is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed this collision or the events leading up to it, call CHP in Martinez at 925-646-4980.
