In a terse statement from authorities Monday evening, Moraga Police and Cal Fire investigators said the cause of Thursday’s fast-moving fire in Sanders Ranch “appears to be accidental.”
That finding quieted, for the time being, a rising Social Media sentiment that the blaze, which ultimately consumed dozens of acres during an ill-timed power outage and came perilously close to some expensive homes, was the work of an arsonist.
“The exact cause of the fire is not being released at this time,” a note from Moraga PD said, elaborating that the incident remains under investigation and “is expected to continue for some time.”
Officials asked for anyone with information about the fire or suspicious activity in Sanders Ranch, which is a gated, security-conscious neighborhood on Moraga’s south side, to contact Moraga Police Detective Kevin Mooney at 925.888.7056 or via email at mooney@moraga.ca.us.
Just the facts, Ma’am. It is gated.
“It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it.” Social media attracts a certain personality type that proves Abraham Lincoln right over and over and over…
It’s a good saying, but that’s not a Lincoln quote. You are quoting Anonymous.
Keeping it “close to the vest” comes to mind. Police need to be guarded as to what they release to the general public, and not give in to media pressure. The media… they’re just doing their job, but the police need to be discreet.
