An 80-year-old man apparently walking outside of a designated crosswalk across Hilltop Drive was struck by a car and killed shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responding to a report of a collision on Hilltop Drive near El Centro Road located the victim on the ground in the eastbound lane of traffic upon their arrival.
Life-saving measures were undertaken by medical personnel but it was eventually determined that the pedestrian was beyond help. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
Initial investigation determined that the as-yet unnamed pedestrian was walking southbound across Hilltop Drive, outside of the crosswalk, when he was struck a Toyota Camry driven by a 39-year-old woman traveling east on Hilltop Drive.
Neither drugs or alcohol appear to be a factor in this collision, according to CHP investigators, but they are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to call the Contra Costa CHP Office at 925-646-4980.
