The Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are currently investigating an officer involved shooting per the county’s law enforcement involved fatal incident protocol.
This morning, Wednesday, at about 9:03 a.m., two Deputy Sheriffs handled a call on Adelaide Drive in Pacheco. They cleared that call at about 9:31 but, as one of the deputies left the area, he noticed a person who had an outstanding warrant on foot in the area of Adelaide Drive and Pacheco Boulevard. The deputy went to contact the suspect, who reportedly kept reaching into his waistband and ran away leading to a foot pursuit by the deputy. The deputy attempted to physically control the person, giving numerous verbal commands to show his hands. Police said a struggle ensued with the suspect pulling out a firearm from his waistband and firing one shot toward the deputy’s head. The deputy returned fire, shooting the suspect.
The Fire Department and an ambulance responded to the location. The male suspect was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The 41-year-old white male from Discovery Bay is not being identified at this time. The suspect had a no bail, warrant for evading and resisting arrest from another county. Police said the suspect also had extensive prior contacts with law enforcement that include drug possession, multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of dangerous weapons, felon in possession of a firearm, stolen vehicle possession, obstruction, possession of burglary tools and parole violation.
He was also an active member of several gangs in Contra Costa, police said.
The Deputy was unhurt and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Office of the Sheriff Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600. For any tips, please email: tips@so.cccounty.us or call 866-846-3592 to leave an anonymous voice message.
How scary that he walked by and opened fire. I hope the victim recovers. Prayers…
Apparently this was an officer-involved shooting with the deputy opening fire on someone, or being fired upon… details extremely murky right now as this is just breaking.
Man what is happening out there??? This is getting crazy.
Is getting a little sporty, Matthew, we’ll agree. Working to sort out the details of this shooting.
A 41 year old gang member with a no-bail warrant who fired at an officer. A member of several gangs at 41? With an extensive criminal history. How scary for the residents of the area, and the officer.
It does attest to a certain commitment to criminal endeavor, if it is as police say. Some people have written who apparently knew him. It does appear he was on the “wrong side of the law.” Could have ended much differently out there on Adelaide this morning.
Having taken the Lafayette Citizen’s
Police Academy class, we got to know some of the Sheriffs as well as police force. Can’t say enough good things about them. A more caring and self-sacrificing group I have never met. Stay safe, guys. I can’t hear a siren today without sending up a prayer for their safety.
Thanks, Rae. The Academy is a great way for locals to get a sense of what officers and deputies face out there every day.
crime is a bit more sedate than many of those nifty pockets of gangs, etc, throughout the County, but I’m pretty sure the po-po in those other areas are thrilled that Californians voted in those peace-love-dope laws about letting folks out of jail unless they commit x-x-x-x-x-x# of felonies. Rock on, California!
Sounds like he was a bad guy. What type of gun was he carrying?
Unbelievable. So many guns.
It only took one gun in the WRONG hands. A felon in possession of a firearm. A felon in possession of ammunition. A felon. A felon. A felon. This felon’s felonious ways and wrongdoing were terminated by a good guy with a gun (Sheriff’s Deputy). Yes, a good guy with a gun saved the day as it has many, many times before. It isn’t the gun. It is the user. In this case, a felon. Fortunately, this felon won’t be felonizing no more.
A life or death struggle in the street in broad daylight and I’m sure few people even realized it was happening.
A forty one year old gang member? Prison gang?
Have they released the findings of their investigation into the Danville police shooting yet???
