An apparent attempt to contact an individual in his car in Lafayette at around 6:35 a.m. Thursday sparked an apparently aggressive, high-speed chase that eventually went to ground when the suspect abandoned his Nissan on Highway 24 near the CalShakes Theater in Orinda and fled into the area on foot.
Orinda Police Chief Mark Nagel said officers searching for the suspect were eventually able to make contact and apprehend him. The suspected was identified later in the day as Cothell Palmore, 22, of Antioch.
Several police agencies and assets converged on the area with partial lane closures on westbound Highway 24 as the search for this suspect was mounted.
Palmore was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on numerous charges that include felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, probation violation and an outstanding warrant.
He is being held without bail, according to police.
