A Concord apartment building under construction at Galindo and Concord Boulevard caught fire, quickly grew to 3-alarms, and was later declared a total loss after burning for much of Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported shortly before 1 a.m. with bystanders stunned by its magnitude and the intensity of its heat. Firefighters ultimately declared the $55 million structure a total loss.
Firefighters responded to the site where the second phase of the Renaissance Apartments were under construction and found the structure burning heavily. Currently, Galindo St, Willow Pass Rd, Concord Blvd and Clayton Rd all closed as firefighters mop up.
Smells like its still burning
Pretty cray cray around these parts lately.
It looks like its about to fall over. They’re pushing people back.
Appears to be a collapse risk right now.
@Walt – There are worries to that effect, Walt, yes.
Cause?
@Jim – Undetermined at this time, Jim.
Sure got going strong. Do they know what started it?
@Brendan – It was going strong as you say, Brendan. No firm word on cause at this point, it’s still burning and there are some concerns about wall collapse.
Big ass fire. Heard the sirens all night.
Amazing no one was seriously hurt.
