A brief but high-speed chase on Camino Tassajara in Danville ended in a grinding collision at Glasgow Drive Saturday, police quickly shutting down the roadway to aid in debris removal and their further investigation.
Danville Police Chief Allan Shields said the incident began at 2:58 p.m. when Automated License Plate Reader cameras sent out a notification of a white 1998 Nissan Maxima listed as stolen out of Oakland. At 3:01 p.m. officers located the vehicle on westbound Camino Tassajara at Woodside Drive and a pursuit was initiated.
The driver, later identified as Christopher Hurst, 49, of Milpitas, fled westbound at a high rate of speed. The pursuit lasted only a short time before Hurst lost control of the vehicle and crashed into trees in the median before coming to rest in the eastbound lanes.
Hurst fled the vehicle on foot and was captured by police moments later. Hurst suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment. Following treatment, he will be transferred to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Hurst is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance.
Too nice a day for this stuff.
Heard it. Anyone else injured beside the perp?
@Kris – We don’t believe so at this time.
Is that all residential now? Used to be ranch land when I knew it. Driving a hunnert through a residential neighborhood is not the best of ideas.
This is crazy. I know that area.
Who writes the flash alerts? Dayum!
@D – That’s Adam, aka The Flash!
Time for a drink. My nerves are gone.
@Alex – ChinChin. Just don’t get in the car!
That car. My god.
Facebook says he’s from Danville.
Bless that Automated License Plate Reader system and the quick response from Danville PD.
Whoa Nelly! They be chillens in the burbs. Straighten up!
Why is this guy from Milpitas, who stole a car in Oakland, driving around Danville? Probably up to do more no good. The crooks are running around all among us, here in tolerant California.
