A Walnut Creek man was killed Friday when his car veered off SR4 at the Alhambra Road off ramp and slid into a tree.
California Highway Patrol investigators said their initial findings indicate that a 1994 Honda Civic traveling west with a single male driver aboard was approaching the off ramp at an undetermined speed on a wet roadway when the car veered off the roadway, down the embankment towards the off ramp below.
Investigators said the driver’s side impacted directly into a large tree and came to rest with the tree fully crushing into the driver’s compartment. He was pronounced deceased on scene. The vehicle is being recovered now and the off ramps #1 lane is partially shut down to recover the Honda.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision. It is still under investigation and if anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.
