The wife of an Alameda County sheriff’s deputy has been sentenced to seven years in prison after she was convicted of vehicular manslaughter following the 2016 collision that killed a 3-year-old boy.
Yarenit Malihan had pleaded guilty in the case to vehicular manslaughter with multiple victim enhancements. She was sentenced Friday in Contra Costa County Superior Court.
At about 6:20 p.m. Sept. 9, 2016, Malihan crashed a Toyota Sequoia into a Toyota Camry that was parked on the side of Interstate Highway 680 near Bolinger Canyon Road in San Ramon. Three-year-old Elijah Dunn died of injuries he suffered in the crash.
Pleasanton police said Malihan had previously been arrested for DUI in June 2016.
Out in 3. Just doesn’t seem right does it?
Justice really is blind.
It’s not right. She killed a toddler and it was not an accident. Just another example of special treatment for those in power and their families. The justice system is beyond broken.
Not only special treatment for those in power, but special treatment for women. Women are punished lightly, especially women of a certain race or socioeconomic backround. Justice isn’t black or white. It’s green.
Not nearly enough time.
So she has multiple arrests for dui and kills a child in the process and she’s out of jail after about 3 years? Not much of a deterrent there.
For a childs life?
This isn’t right. A child was killed.
Just not right.
