A neighbor’s call brought firefighters on the run Saturday after a lethal fire broke out in a series of apartments at 98 Farm Lane in Martinez.
Firefighters were met by significant smoke and flame and were almost immediately made aware that a resident was down inside the home. Heavy flames burned through the second floor and into the attic of the structure as firefighters moved to effect a rescue of the person inside.
That person was located, extricated from the building and taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead there.
Commanders on the scene called for a second alarm almost immediately after arriving on the scene and a heavy fire response descended on the area.
We’ll have more on this story as details become available.
