A crash in the 1100 block of Moraga Road – across from the Moraga Skatepark – damaged power poles and dropped live wires in the area Thursday afternoon – briefly knocking out power to the surrounding neighborhood and touching off a couple of small spot fires.
Residents were made aware of the crash at around 3:25 p.m. as lights flickered and then died. Bystanders reported the wreckage of a car on Moraga Road across from the skate park and responding police officers were on scene in minutes.
A kid in a brown t-shirt was filming in the area “with a really nice camera” and may have captured more than he bargained for – or so we are told.
Moraga Road is closed (4:37 p.m.) between Corliss and St. Mary’s Road and will be until 5 a.m. Friday while PG&E works on those compromised poles.
oh, that’s what caused the outage this afternoon. Boy, that is one lucky driver!
How did that happen?
You have to lose it pretty badly to end up like that.
Strange that one person in a car can do all that.
O my!! Haven’t don that yet!!
Holy moly!
As of 8:15am, road was still closed with detour following Corliss.
@GF – That’s right, GF. Flashed that news to our Flashers in the area this morning.
Sad to have missed out on that flash! I use that route to avoid Miramonte traffic in the morning…
For a ‘quiet’ suburban road that stretch sees its share of automotive mishap. Didn’t we have a couple of fatal incidents in there? What’s it posted for? 25? 35?
With a baby in the car?
Hurry up with that driverless car Google.
This happens a lot?
I cant even begin to imagine how that happened.
I am no longer surprised by what I see on our roads. I try to stay off them as much as possible.
The times says this happened after 6 pm????
@Tricia – The Times is wrong. About 3:25 p.m.
News24 680 had the time right! They usually get everything right! I trust them first over other media.:)
@Greg T – Appreciate that vote of confidence, Greg. Nice to have you with us!
Agree. The times report sounded off.
Glad no one was hurt. That could have been a LOT worse!!
That pole is still a little wonky
