From the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff:

Detectives continue to investigate a homicide in Byron but have made a key discovery in the murder of a local woman found dead at a home in Byron Friday.

An autopsy performed Monday morning on the victim, 37-year-old Emily Courchesne of Danville, determined her death to be the result of a gunshot wound.

On Friday morning, at about 10:05, Deputies were dispatched to a ā€œMedical – PDā€ call at a residence on the 24000 block of Marsh Creek Road in Byron.

Deputies found Courchesne deceased inside the residence of the victim’s aunt and uncle. Friends say she was staying at the home to take care of family pets and to watch over things while her relatives were away. Detectives later determined her death to be suspicious, determining that Courchesne was killed sometime between Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning. No motive or suspects have been established yet.

Byron has been largely untouched by violent crime until recently, with two homicides involving women from other towns reported there in the last three months. Sheriff’s investigators recently announced two arrests in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Aleli Avila, whose body was found August 22 on a road leading to a Byron silica mine.

Ser Alex Estrada, 44, of Antioch, was charged in connection with her killing with investigators alleging Estrada used a coffee cup and a trophy to bludgeon Avila.

Estrada was arrested Tuesday in Pittsburg.

A second man, Rodolfo Manalo, 60, of San Francisco was arrested in Daly City on murder charges Friday morning.

May God grant her family peace and strength. And give the police the guidance they need to find who did this.

@Danielle – Thinking like a detective! Everything “under investigation” at this time, Danielle. We have nothing to report beyond this at this moment.
