At approximately 4 a.m. AM the Carquinez Bridge Toll Plaza was robbed by two black male adults wearing blue or purple latex gloves while traveling in a black Mercedes S550 sedan with paper plates and distinctive chrome accents added to the vehicle.
At approximately 2:00 PM, suspects matching the same description and traveling in a vehicle matching the same description robbed the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge.
Investigators say a gun was displayed.
In both incidents, it appears the suspects brandished a pistol and demanded money. In total $4,196.00 was stolen. The thieves stole $1,200.00 from the Carquinez Bridge Toll Plaza and $2,996.00 from the San Francisco- Oakland Bay Bridge Toll Plaza. If found the suspects will face recommended charges of robbery, grand theft, and brandishing a firearm.
In 2015, there were 14 toll plaza robberies reported to the CHP. The CHP arrested a suspect that appeared to be responsible for 11 of those robberies.
In 2016, there were a total of 5 toll plaza robberies reported to the CHP. A suspect that appeared to be involved in at least one of those robberies was arrested on an unrelated probation violation.
In 2017, there have been 4 toll plaza robberies so far and we are actively investigating each of these incidents.
The California Highway Patrol is actively investigating both robberies. If anyone witnessed this incident or has information regarding it, please contact them at 707.551.4100.
No wonder the guy in front of me at the toll plaza took forever to move.
Told you people wouln’t like those fare hikes.
I guess they’re robbing the bridge District before the bridge District starts robbing a Citizens at $9 a pop.
Next thing you know they will be robbing people standing in line at the airport.
Those toll guys are kind of exposed.
I’m surprised this doesn’t happen more often, especially during hours with little or no traffic. The only reason it doesn’t is probably not a lot of cash on hand, and not worth it to the average armed robber.
They don’t seem too worried about getting caught.
Some people will rob anything.
They don’t worry about getting caught, because of they are caught the criminal justice system will pretty much turn them back loose without jail time. In the rare event they go to jail they’re let out because they’re supposed to be crowding. I’m really afraid how bad this is all going to get before your average citizen wakes up and rattles the Capitol in Sacramento!
Greg – I’m as tough on crime as you are, but lets be reasonable. There are sentence enhancements for armed robbery in CA:
Ten years for personally using a firearm in a robbery.
Twenty years for personally and intentionally firing a gun during a robbery.
Twenty five to life for bodily injury or death during a robbery.
I agree they don’t worry about getting caught. They don’t care. If they cared, they wouldn’t commit crimes.
I don’t understand why the suspects didn’t get caught when they robbed the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge? The bridge is almost 5 miles long so the police should have been waiting on the other end. Its not like… they could take side streets to get away, unless they changed cars some where on the bridge.
