Armed robberies with decorative jewelry the apparent target have been reported in Pleasanton and San Ramon, the latest in Pleasanton on Monday and another the evening before.
Pleasanton police say two women were walking in the Pleasanton Place Apartments at 4408 Mohr Ave. at 10:53 p.m. Monday when a black male suspect approached them, brandished a gun, and demanded that one of the women give him her gold necklace.
Investigators said that when the woman hesitated the suspect made a grab for the necklace, missed, and was last seen fleeing on foot east on Mohr.
The suspect was described as a clean shaven black male, about 6’3” tall and weighing about 200 pounds with short black hair and in his late twenties or early thirties. He was wearing a dark colored ¾ zip sweatshirt and black pants. There was no associated vehicle or additional suspects seen, according to Pleasanton police.
The description and method of thievery is strikingly similar to an earlier armed robbery in San Ramon, reported by this site on its Facebook Page as it happened shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday.
In that instance an armed robber approached a woman as she was walking in an apartment complex on Canyon Village Circle at 10:12 p.m., brandished a gun and snatched a chain from a woman’s neck.
In both instances local officers were on-scene in less than two minutes and conducted an extensive area search, but were unable to capture the suspect. The victims were uninjured in both robberies.

Sounds like “shopping” not just “robbing.” Methinks some lucky girl (or guy, I suppose) is about to get a gift of several gold necklaces– perhaps with brand new clasps….
@Chris – Wethinks one of those itinerant Gold Buying operations is going to get a visit in a few days.
Real hero this guy.
It’s sad that us ladies can’t even wear jewelry without this happening, but nice jewelry does make you an easy target. They’re on their way to a meltdown or a pawn shop. I’m glad no one was hurt.
Video?
@Tracee – We haven’t seen any yet, Tracee but if we do get some we would certainly run it here.
So picking on women in apartment complexes after ten o’clock? That about it?
@Mare – Women wearing gold chains apparently, yes, Mare.
What is a 3/4 zip sweatshirt? Fashion terms confuse me. Maybe he’s stealing these gold chains so he can afford the other 1/4 of a sweatshirt?
@Tom – We’re with you there, Tom. Still working on “skinny jeans.”
