Two local men heard that Highland Road crash we mentioned on our Facebook page yesterday, and they knew it was time to act.

Dan Rich and Clayton Wiedemann arrived at the scene of the crash on Highland Road near Collier Canyon Road in Livermore and spotted the car upside down in a murky and swiftly-moving creek.

Both men leapt in to help rescue the trapped driver, a 20-year-old San Ramon man, with Rich grabbing a handy pick ax from his truck to smash the rear window after it became clear the car doors were jammed and would not open.

The men hauled the lucky driver out and the trio had a moment to contemplate possible alternative endings to the scenario while standing on the bank of the stream. The driver suffered only minor injuries, and it was determined he’d lost control of his car while driving east on Highland.

CHP captain Christopher Sherry was effusive in his praise for the two rescuers.
