Suspected Burglar Leads Lamorinda Police On Chase Out Of Town Thursday – Later Arrested In Piedmont

Lamorinda police responding to a call of an auto burglary underway in Moraga found themselves in a speedy pursuit Thursday after the suspected car thief hit the gas and headed for the freeway.

Neighbors – one of whom told this site she spoke with the suspected burglar shortly before things went haywire – called in a report of someone in a white Honda attempting to burglarize a car in town around 8:05 a.m. Thursday. Police located the suspect car and fell in behind it when the driver accelerated out of town, heading into Lafayette – ramming an unsuspecting motorist in the 200 block of Moraga Road.

Traffic on Moraga Road was impacted for about an hour as officers processed the accident scene at the top of the hill. It is believed the driver involved in that crash sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Meanwhile, the fugitive Honda continued speeding out Mt. Diablo Blvd. and onto westbound Highway 24 with Lafayette officers in pursuit. Another resident wrote to tell us he saw a man and woman in the car, leaving town swiftly with police cars in pursuit.

Officers pursued the Honda westbound through the Caldecott at speeds reported to be in the 70 mph range, eventually losing the car in Oakland. Police sources told NEWS24/680 that the suspected burglar, whose name was not given, was later arrested in Piedmont – and that the battered white Honda he used to visit Lamorinda had been reported stolen.

Investigators said the person was booked on suspicion of burglary and other charges in Alameda County.

Thursday’s chase punctuates a day of high-speed antics on area freeways, as well as other recent events documented on this site.

  1. Still sorting this one out. No injuries to driver struck by this guy on his way out of town. Busy morning!

  2. I can’t believe these two got away. Was walking down Moraga Rd near Mt. Diablo Blvd as the chase passed. Very young trashy white guy diving with girl in passenger, maybe 20 years old. They were driving the most janky beat up hatchback with bumpers dragging on the ground. Cops were right behind them with Moraga PD calling their pursuit car off as others joined in near the freeway.

    • Thanks, Brayden, believe those bumpers may have been dragging after he hit an innocent on his way down Moraga Road…

  3. Piedmont??? He’s getting steak in jail over there. Bring his ass back to Moraga and we’ll Sinkhole the sucker!!!!
