Have We Outsmarted Ourselves? Will AI Ultimately Crush Us?
Editor;
As a working human I have taken an interest in our collective future as really smart people take to talk shows warning of our collective demise at the hands of engines we have built ourselves.
Always interested in anecdotal evidence of any trend I’ve noted colleagues remark about the prospect of a tightening job market and increasing layoffs in my field – with the possibility of longer time off work as experienced workers are replaced by AI and companies get more selective about their hiring processes.
I’ve also witnessed a drawdown in the free-spending days of old, with more people staying home and trying to cut costs.
Doomsayers predict AI will fundamentally transform the workforce – replacing many job roles and transforming others forever. Estimates suggest up to 60 percent of jobs will require significant adaptation, with high risks for entry-level white-collar, administrative, and customer service positions.
Experts have continued to express fears that we’ve created a monster capable of inflicting harm upon us and the needed steps to ensure regulation and control of the technology are not being taken seriously.
Sincerely,
Dwayne Reedland/Concord
