A flurry of residential burglaries – at least two of them while the residents were present – has sparked a police search and a redoubling of security precautions by Pleasanton residents concerned by break-ins reported late last month into early March.

Pleasanton police did not say why the public wasn’t notified of the incidents until a notice was issued through their web site March 6.

They did say that a teenager was doused with pepper spray after confronting the suspect – described as “a light-skinned Black male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing dark clothing and a mask” by police – on Feb. 27, and that a Mohr Avenue couple was pistol-whipped by the suspect on March 4 after he was confronted while prowling in their backyard, forcing them back inside their home at gunpoint and assaulting them at around 8pm.

Security footage from one targeted home depicted a male suspect wearing a dark hoodie, jeans and white shoes. Police did not describe his firearm but said he did not fire the gun during the assault.

Police said several burglaries have been reported, some on the same day, and that the suspect has managed to elude resultant police cordons and searches.
