SHARE

From the City of Walnut Creek

The City of Walnut Creek extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who died early Thursday morning during an officer-involved shooting in our community. This is a tragedy that affects us all, and our hearts are with the family, neighbors, and all who are grieving.

On February 26, 2026, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Walnut Creek Police Officers responded to a call of a person acting suspiciously and looking into homes and vehicles in a residential neighborhood. Upon arriving, officers encountered a man holding what appeared to be a firearm that was later determined to be a pellet gun. Despite multiple clear commands to drop the weapon, he did not comply and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers immediately rendered aid and requested medical personnel, but the individual died from his injuries at the scene. No officers were injured.

We recognize the profound impact this incident has on families, first responders, and our entire community. The Walnut Creek Police Department and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are conducting thorough investigations, and we are committed to transparency throughout the process. As this remains an active investigation, at this time we are not releasing the name of the individual nor the officers who responded to the incident.

We urge anyone with information to contact the Walnut Creek Police Department, and we ask that the community come together with respect and care for one another.
