An employee working at the Kwik Serve Gas Station at 1387 S. California Boulevard was shot and wounded by a 16-year-old suspect attempting to steal cigarettes from the store at approximately 3:55am Sunday morning.

Walnut Creek police confirmed the incident in a release issued Monday afternoon, saying the clerk sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound after confronting two people attempting to steal cigarettes. Preliminary investigation determined that two masked suspects entered the store and were attempting to steal the cigarettes when the clerk confronted them and a struggle ensued.

The victim, whose age was not given, was found by police responding to an armed robbery call at the store and transported to a local hospital, where he was reportedly listed in stable condition.

Later Sunday evening, at approximately 6p.m., WCPD Detectives and Oakland police officers, arrested a 16-year-old juvenile in connection with the attempted robbery and shooting case. The suspect was booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted robbery and attempted homicide.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, according to police.

  1. Oh no, things like this never happen in Walnut Creek, we have strict gun control laws here in California, this is not possible.

        • News24/680 Editor here – aka “The Ref” – with a gentle admonition to refrain from poking, prodding neighboring readers with political jabs, etc. We’re told there are sites where that is allowed and we’re forgiving but we maintain a civil and hopefully cerebral atmosphere here and that’s what our readers say they want. We’re after what’s percolating in your pointy little heads, not engaging in pointless flame wars. Okay, break… carry on.

          • I see “prodding neighbors with political jabs” on a frequent basis on this site, often from the same repeat offenders. I would love to see action taken to keep that out of what otherwise could be interesting debate.

          • It will be. We’re just advising the players on the rules of the game beforehand…

    • Walnut Creek is not the small quiet town it was 30-40 years ago!!

I still remember when cruising around downtown Walnut Creek on Friday and Saturday nights was the crime of the century in Walnut Creek!!

    • 100%, Jeff. But most people still do not know it!
Another reason for the decline is allowing these minors to do any kind of crime and not be charged..per new laws put in the last 5 yo 10 years.. you’re over bugs are using them the new car jackets and things going to be able to get away with !it! Yeah the Democrat super majority in the state has really screwed thing up.

      • Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and numerous other states are available. They offer the die-hard, gun toting, long prison sentences, and death penalty using policies that create their crime free zones. All the data proves it!

        Or totally not.

  2. Lori Lightfoot said it best. People go to red states to get guns and then come to blue states to commit crimes.
    A) we need gun free zones.
    B) no one allowed from red states

Remember the young lady who was driving with other kids and doing the slalom down ygnacio. She jumped the center divide but was then struck by another vehicle traveling in the correct but opposite direction.
    Nothing but crickets since

    • More than a few topics raised here: 1.) Are we talking about Lori Lightfoot… of Chicago?

2.) Guns – get ready for an – energetic – discussion there. Weapons have apparently ascended to near religious status in this country.

3.) Fatal Crashes – the one you cite was especially horrific. All are hard to take and imprinted on us.

4.) Crickets – yes, after the initial furor and umbrage, most major incidents fade into a more comfortable obscurity. It has been suggested we’re a nation of amnesiacs, who overlook possible long-term solutions in favor of a quick fix.

      • Guns have achieved mythic status? To some, but these are not the people who are causing the problems. Most gun owners are responsible and hold the 2nd Amendment dear. I absolutely feel I have the right to protect myself in my own home. Remember, when seconds count, the police may be minutes away.

        • Your insurance company clearly doesn’t think your gun ownership is the safer and less costly option. Hence your premiums. Must be those woke actuaries.

    • It’s against the law to bring in guns from other states and not get them registered, why aren’t these people in prison?

  3. WCPD posted on Instagram that it was an attempted robbery at the Kwik Serve gas station on 1387 S California. One person has been arrested. One employee was shot and hospitalized with a non-life threatening wound.

  4. District of Columbia v Heller-SCOTUS case from 2008. Courtesy of Justice Scalia. This is where oft-quoted militia language is vitiated. Onward we go into 2026. Every stay safe and vigilant.

    • Yep. Somehow it took the country over 200 years to figure out that the 2nd Amendment meant that individuals had a right to gun ownership. Glad we finally figured that out after all those previous years of numerous instances of gun regulation and outright abolition if the local government authorities decided to.
