Kicking off our photographic countdown of images from the past year with this gem – a snapshot of a moment on the beat with a geometric composition and lighting we found both appealing and revealing.
We were on the blower with our photographer when he gave a subtle “wait” and we knew he was onto something, the guy quieter than a submarine at crush depth. There was just a hint of “I’ve found something” in his voice and we knew better than to push for more info, sensing he was onto something and on the hunt.
“I gotta go,” he said before clicking off as we marked his last known location for safety reasons and waited for him to send in photos of whatever he’d come across. Minutes later this came in, our man attracted by the sound of raised voices and the right combination of light, shapes, and shadows.

Wow! Fantastic photo! Photog definitely has a great eye. Does said snapper not wish to be identified?
Said snapper works in an often hostile environment (as do we all) and prefers to keep things stealthy. This has proven to be a wise approach. He is known by his callsign – “Razor1.”
